“After 27 years of private practice – first in Memphis, Tennessee, and then in Abingdon Virginia – I joined the faculty at UVA three years ago. Shortly after, while updating myself on mast cells and abdominal pain, I became intrigued by intestinal microbiota and its role in health and disease. With support from colleagues in infectious diseases, internal medicine, surgery, and hospital administration, I submitted a grant proposal to the Buchanan Endowment fund to set up a fecal transplant program at UVA. I was thrilled to learn that our funding was approved this spring. Brian Behm will serve as my co-investigator.
“These last few years have been almost as exciting as my first year as an intern on the internal medicine wards of the City of Memphis Hospital! My colleagues in the division are the brightest and most collegial physicians I have ever worked with.”
