Hematology & Oncology
Division of Hematology & Oncology
Chief: Geoffrey R. Weiss, MD
The Division of Hematology and Oncology provides state-of-the-art medical treatment and care to patients with hematological and oncological diseases. Division faculty, together with colleagues from other medical specialties and the basic sciences, form the UVA Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer treatment and research center – one of only 67 in the U.S., and one of two in the state of Virginia.
The division’s excellent faculty contribute to the growing national reputation of the UVA cancer program. U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” guide recognized cancer treatment as one of nine “high-performing” specialties at UVA, in both 2012 and 2013. The Becker Hospital Review for 2012 included UVA on the list of “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs,” based on measures such as patient satisfaction and innovations in treatment and care.
Division faculty hold medical directorships and render academic and scholarly service at the UVA Cancer Center, the School of Medicine, and well beyond – including NIH review panels and national and international professional societies.
