UVA Health System

ABOUT UVA HEALTH SYSTEM-Nighttime shot

In 1825, Thomas Jefferson established the nation’s 10th medical school at University of Virginia. Over the course of almost 200 years, this school has grown into UVA Health System – a nationally ranked, 609-bed academic medical center with a level I trauma center.

Our physicians and nurses are actively involved in research to give patients access to treatments and medications not widely available. As a result, patients travel from around the world to seek treatment with us.

The future of UVA has never looked more promising. We recently completed a 200,000-square-foot Children’s Hospital outpatient facility, the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center and a major bed expansion on our Medical Center grounds in Charlottesville.

While capital investments are key, what sets UVA apart is the collaborative spirit of top minds in healthcare. We rank among the nation’s best because of our doctors, nurses and others who make every effort to push the envelope of healthcare.
