RESEARCH: General Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care
General Medicine faculty conduct research in patient safety and quality, treatment of chronic illness, competency-based medical education, bioethics, palliative care, and other topics of urgent national concern.
The “Wisdom through Adversity” study, funded by the John Templeton Foundation and led by division chief Margaret Plews-Ogan and colleagues Natalie May and Justine Owens, bore fruit in 2012-2013 with a documentary that aired on PBS and a book, “Choosing Wisdom: Strategies and Inspiration for Growing through Life-Changing Difficulties,” that was featured at the Virginia Festival of the Book in March 2013.
