FACULTY RECRUITMENT, RECOGNITION & SERVICE: General Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care

In FY 2013, the division welcomed six new full-time hospitalists and one new part-time general medicine practitioner, bringing the total number of faculty to 48. Nine faculty members were featured in the 2013 Best Doctors in America list: Drs. Ballew, Becker, Goodman, Heald, Helenius, MacKnight, Nadkarni, Snustad, and Wolf.

Special awards in the last year include:

  • Natalie May, Margaret Plews-Ogan, John Schorling: 2012 American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation’s Professionalism Article Prize (commentary/perspective category) for “Perspective: The Negativity Bias, Medical Education, and the Culture of Academic Medicine: Why Culture Change is Hard” (published in the journal Academic Medicine)
  • Matthew Goodman, Evan Head, Mohan Nadkarni: 2013 Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Fellows for Humanism in Medicine
  • Laurie Archbald-Pannone: 2012 Department of Medicine Award for Outstanding Young Investigator
  • Huai Cheng: 2012 Young Investigator Award from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association Annual Assembly
  • George Hoke: 2012 Inaugural Friend of Nursing Award, UVA Professional Nursing Staff Organization
  • John MacKnight: Inducted as fellow to the American College of Sports Medicine, 2012
  • Mohan Nadkarni: Charlottesville Free Clinic Inaugural Mohan Nadkarni Award, 2012
  • Benjamin Sneed: 2012 Department of Medicine Award for Outstanding Educator
  • Andrew Wolf: 2012 Department of Medicine Award for Outpatient Attending of the Year
