EDUCATION: Pulmonary & Critical Care

Under the direction of Kyle Enfield, the division provides fellows specializing in pulmonary disease and critical care a broad array of clinical and research training opportunities. Residents and fellows rotate through UVA Hospital’s Primary Care Center and numerous outpatient clinics which offer pulmonary care to patients, providing trainees with a broad mix of cases and exposing them to the team approach necessary to manage these complicated patients.

  • Medicine Grand Rounds: A number of PCC faculty have given Medicine Grand Rounds in this academic year, and the Dudley Rochester Lecture was given by Dr. Clay Marsh, Vice-Dean for Research from Ohio State University Medical Center.
  • Resident Teaching: The biggest advance has been the continuous two-attending presence in the MICU, which has cut in half the time each MICU team rounds, and increases time for teaching on rounds.
  • Fellowship Education: During this year, we incorporated the 8th fellow to our program, with the 9th entering FY14 (August 1, 2013). During FY13, Kyle Enfield was the Associate Program Director, which he handed over to Cindy Brown (effective 7-1-13) after becoming the new MICU Director.

The division has been able to expand its fellowship program in the last two years, adding three new positions, for a total ten.
