Starting in fall 2014, Greg Townsend is taking on a new role: Associate Dean for Diversity and Medical Education at UVA School of Medicine (SOM). He will direct SOM’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and help implement and refine the School’s recently completed Diversity Plan, providing strategic and programmatic leadership as well as counsel to students, faculty, and staff. The goal is to promote a more diverse community and a positive experience for all.

Dr. Townsend is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health, with a primary clinical interest in the care and treatment of HIV-infected persons. He graduated from UVA School of Medicine in 1986, completed his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at West Virginia University Hospitals, and then came back to UVA for a fellowship in infectious diseases.
