Carey-Marshall-Thorner Research and Scholars’ Day
With a Grand Rounds presentation by Division of Endocrinology professor Eugene Barrett, MD, PhD, on “The Changing Face of Insulin Therapy,” 10 other oral presentations by Department of Medicine residents and fellows, and more than 80 poster presentations on an array of topics — including cancer mechanisms, hormones and metabolism, infections and toxins, medical education, patient safety and access, tissue injury, and vaccines and immunity — the 2015 Carey-Marshall-Thorner Research & Scholars Day on Wednesday, May 6, presented
a remarkable overview of the scholarly production of Department of Medicine (DOM) trainees and faculty mentors.
Chair Mitch Rosner, MD, recognized and thanked Karen Ward and DOM’s Vice Chair for Research, Eric Houpt, MD, along with DOM Vice Chair for Education Gerald Donowitz, MD, and Michael Brown, PhD, (Nephrology) and Shu Man Fu, MD, PhD, (Rheumatology) for their efforts in organizing and coordinating the event, along with those of chief residents Michael Devitt, MD; Trish Gordon, MD; Elizabeth McKinney, MD; and Brad Weinbaum, MD.
“A special thank you to our faculty who reviewed abstracts and served as judges for the poster and oral presentations: Alan Dalkin, Kyle Enfield, Scott Heysell, Jennifer Kirby, Thu Le, Allison Lyons, Chris McCartney, Neeral Shah and Brian Uthlaut,” said Dr. Rosner. “It was a wonderful event and highlights the outstanding research that is occurring in the department at all levels. We should be very proud of the depth and breadth of our research mission.”
