Match Day for Incoming Residents

DOM EDUCATION:
Match Day Yields Impressive Crop of New Interns

Match Day for the Department of Medicine’s Internal Medicine Residency program was conducted on March 20, 2015, and went very well, with an outstanding group of 31 incoming residents in the categorical and primary care tracks and six incoming preliminary interns, all scheduled to begin training in June 2015. The scores of those who matched with the department, and their geographic diversity, were impressive. The new group comes from all over the country — from Oregon to Massachusetts, Minnesota to Mississippi — as well as a number of graduates from the UVA School of Medicine.

Organizing and conducting Match Day takes tremendous effort on the part of many people, including:

  • Members of the intern selection committee, who screened over 1,160 ERAS files.
  • DOM faculty members who interviewed candidates.
  • Graduate Medical Education administrative team, who made the complicated process, including 23 days of interviews, run smoothly.
  • The current internal medicine residents, who are the residency program’s best advertisement.
  • Brian Uthlaut, MD, internal medicine residency associate program director, for his oversight and encyclopedic knowledge of each candidate.
  • The 2014–2015 chief residents, who made it their goal for the last six months to produce a great match for the program.

Thanks to all for their hard work.
