The Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care is committed to excellence in clinical care that improves the health of adults throughout their lifespan. Through academic leadership, innovative research, and community service, it is actively engaged with the crucial issues that are reshaping academic medicine and healthcare generally.

In support of its expanding clinical mission, the division added 12 new faculty members and three advanced practice nurses to its roster over the past year; undertook a major reorganization of its primary care practices along the “firm” model; and significantly enlarged its Hospitalist program, among other initiatives.

The division’s focus on change was explored in a two-day retreat with the theme “Transformation of a Health System: From Fee for Service to Population Health.” Attended by over 60 division and UVA faculty and staff members, the meeting helped stimulate creative ideas for new initiatives and collaborative projects.
