Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine:
FACULTY RECRUITMENT, RECOGNITION & SERVICE

During FY 2014, the division welcomed two new faculty members as assistant professors of medicine: Charles Malpass, who completed a fellowship at UVA and joined the division in July 2013; and Alex Kadl, who had been a fellow with the division, and joined the faculty in October 2013.

Recruitment

Recruitment efforts during 2014 yielded four new faculty hires for FY2015: Andrew Vranic (a former UVA Pulmonary & Critical Care fellow) and Dana Albon (lung transplant specialist), both of whom started in July 2014; and Eric Davis (sleep medicine) and Meghan Cooper (interventional pulmonology), who began in September 2014. Eric Davis succeeds Paul Suratt as director of the sleep program; Dr. Suratt is retiring in September 2014 after four decades of service to the division and the University.

Awards & Honors

Borna Mehrad’s appointment as E. Cato Drash Professor of Pulmonary Medicine was approved by the UVA Board of Visitors in June 2014. Dr. Mehrad was also recognized with a 2014 “Resident Mentor Award” by the DOM Internal Medicine residents.

Division chief C. Edward Rose was included on both the Castle Connolly Top Doctors list and the Best Doctors in America list for 2014; about 5 percent of U.S. doctors earn inclusion on the latter. Kyle Enfield received a “Friend of Nursing” award in May 2014 from UVA’s Professional Nursing Staff Organization, given annually to a UVA physician in recognition of their collaborative work with the nursing staff.
