FACULTY RECRUITMENT, RECOGNITION & SERVICE
The division welcomed two new faculty members in 2014, Poonam Korpe and Luther Bartelt, both of whom are the recipients of NIH “K” awards. The following faculty members received promotions:
- Assistant Professor – Jie Liu
- Tenure – Costi Sifri, Molly Hughes
- Associate Professor – Rebecca Dillingham, Circi Warren, Christopher Moore
Notable ID faculty awards and achievements in FY 2014 included the following:
- Bill Petri received a 2014 State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) Outstanding Faculty Award; one of the recipients in 2013 was ID’s Erik Hewlett
- Frederick Hayden was appointed interim chair of the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infections Consortium (ISARIC), starting in October 2013
- W. Michael Scheld served as co-editor (with R.J. Whitley & C.M. Marra) of the 4th edition of Infections of the Central Nervous System, published by LWW in May 2014.
The 2014 “Best Doctors in America” list included six faculty members from ID: Gerald Donowitz, Eric Houpt, Bill Petri, Mike Scheld, Costi Sifri, Brian Wispelwey
ID faculty who are members of the American Society for Clinical Investigation are: Richard Guerrant, Jack Gwaltney, Frederick Hayden, Erik Hewlett, Eric Houpt, William Petri Jr., Michael Scheld.
