UVA’s Division of General, Geriatric, Palliative & Hospital Medicine, led by Mohan Nadkarni, MD, is committed to developing effective approaches to medical care that improve the health and quality of life of adults throughout their lifespan. The department advanced this mission on multiple fronts in FY 2015.

Under the new leadership of Division Chief Mohan Nadkarni, MD, the division:

• Opened UVA Primary and Specialty Care Pantops Integrative Medicine
• Received a funding award from the Buchanan Endowment program for Palliative’s Comprehensive Assessment with Rapid Evaluation and Treatment (CARE Track)
• Launched the new hospitalist Orthopedic Co-Management Service
• Commenced eConsults, funded through a grant from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovations (CMMI)

In addition, University Medical Associates (UMA) successfully transitioned the Internal Medicine ambulatory residency program to a new 3+1 schedule.

These achievements were accomplished by a division of 78 faculty and staff.

The above highlights are just a sampling of the division’s successes in FY 2015 as it pursued its vision to become a global resource in healthcare through the provision of excellent clinical care, progressive teaching, preeminent leadership, cutting-edge research and visible community service.
