Cheng and Nadkarni Receive SOM Education Fellowship Awards

Huai Cheng, MD, and Mohan Nadkarni, MD, received inaugural Education Fellowship awards from the UVA School of Medicine. Dr. Cheng’s award is for a project entitled “Teaching Value- and Preference-Based Prescribing for Older Adults with Multi-Morbidities to Fourth-Year Medical Students at Geriatrics Clinical Sites: A Pilot Interventional Study.” Dr. Nadkarni, with Carolyn Englelhard, an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, received support for their project “Health and Medicine — Interconnections and Implications: A Moderated Health Policy Discussion and Scholarly Seminar Series for Medical Students.” The series ran from February to May 2015 and September-November 2015 for SMD18. There will be an accompanying web-based discussion group for students in all four years.

The Education Fellowship Awards were created in response to faculty input received during the School of Medicine’s strategic planning process in 2014, suggesting that funds be made available to support educational innovations in curriculum design.
